ST170 issues

Post by luke skywalker » Tue Nov 04, 2014 7:21 am

Hi guys I just bought a silver ST170 but I seem to be having a few issues. She started smoking yesterday so I thought maybe the PCV valve was damaged as it was thick white smoke so I replaced the valve but she is still smoking.

I fear the the rings might be gone. It only smokes on start up and then after a few seconds the smoking stops

Any suggestions would be great

you will probably find that the pistons and stuff are still fine - just probably need a hone on the block with some new rings and seals, bearings and it will be as good as new

And then after the "redo" all you need to do is service the car often. My 170 has 285k on it and still runs strong with no smoke or any other problems.

She was neglected badly by the previous owner. Want to get her back to her former glory. Thanks for everything guys.
