two splits systems vs one split and sub

Postby transformer » Mon Feb 23, 2015 8:06 am

I am planning to do some basic sound upgrades without it breaking the bank so what I came up with is two 6.5 inch kicker components and a kicker amp. I just want better quality not really after crazy bass. Any advice?

Is the rear of the focus ST 2010 also 6.5 inch?

This is the headunit I am planning to go for:

the two split systems and amp

I would recommend split system in front, only mids in the rear and one 10" or 12" sub. Not needed for entire split system in the rear. Kicker a good option if looking for good sound for not that much money.

why don't you just put 6.5 splits in front, and a sealed 10 inch sub running off a 4 channel amp.

You will get more than enough good quality sound from your splits and you will not regret the sub once you have it!

^^^ Agreed..

get a 10 inch... but go for quality like a JL...wont give mind blow bass either..but that all can be set up on your amp gains etc..

you heard my car...it plays clear and loud...but too much bass for you like you said..but that can all be adjusted...

the rear stage in the ST is fine...mine is still holding up...i just have front splits... VIBE ones...

so i would suggest... front 6.5 splits... 10 inch sub.. and the amp..and you will be sorted :smt023

saw that but no one mentions the radio upgrade again...in my prevouis ride I had LA setup with stock radio and it played crap - I then upgraded to Alpine HU and the sound clarity was 100x better.

Im no sound guru but the headunit is the power source of your speakers if im not mistaken. so getting an external source like an amplifier would fix that. A better headunit will improve it as well. Not sure tho

Yeah I know this was hoping guys would advise on these newer units. I have seen some walk through videos on units with those exact specs and they seem.pretty good compared to.the older stuff? Julez has probably seen these new units in action?

Headunits makes a huge difference (sound processing/signals etc) imo - think it is the 1st thing to upgrade before looking at speakers and amp, but thats my preference.
