Downfiring subwoofer

Postby Ford_Fanatic » Tue Sep 13, 2016 3:18 pm

Hi Guys

I want to do a sound upgrade in my car, ST225. The question I have is about the sub box design. I've seen on the 225, where the sub woofer faces upwards. The box is designed around the spare replacing polystyrene that sits around the spare wheel.

I want to make a box the same/similar but have the sub woofer down firing. So that it is totally concealed and i would have my entire boot space available and reduce the chance of something damaging it. The carpet would be placed on top.

How would this affect its sound? what would be my best approach?

There isn't much information on something like this, besides regular down firing box using up the boot space or under the seat.
I don't want to go through all this just to find out the sound is poor.

Thanks

Hi Transformer
I did have a look at the build done in your car. I am doing something very similar. Except were your sub is up firing mine would be down firing.
I plan on using a slim sub.
I want to make the box which is why I am asking. I will have the rest of the sound installed together with sound deadening by an installer.
I did have a car before that had a subwoofer under a carper in the spare wheel and sounded great. I dont know if it was down, up or forward firing though.
