I also have this and this only happens when leaving my driveway, does not matter whether its warm or cold, but I can definitely say its from the front drivers side and almost feels as if the "thud" is by my feet. I'm inclined to say this happens when the wheels aren't facing straight and the left front wheel is on the incline and the front right wheel almost touches the ground. So frustrating.

Hi

Had the same issue with my fezz the bracket that holds the exhaust in place was loose and when going over a speed hump the whole exhaust would move sideways and hit something and cause the noise. It was so frustrating and somehow you could not replicate the movement with your hands when the car was off the ground took a really sharp-eyed ouk to spot it the bracket was welded for R25 sorted.

This is a common problem on many Mazda models & the dealers cure it with greasing and re-tightening of the front suspension control arms.

Buy a van if you want to climb curbs.

Driving on most SA roads = climbing curbs or worse.

My car only does this when it rains or is cold...Its been the whole of summer and not a single sound, but when it cold like 2 weeks ago, instantly the noise was back once and not since as its warm now again...Honestly I dont know what it is but it is temp related, that is for sure!

Could it be driver side engine mount? What other symptoms would one experience if it were the mount?

Thats abs engaging...It should EDIT:(not) be a loud thud, just a gentle clunk of sorts. Ironically abs doesnt work below 20km/h...statistically most often its needed below that speed...Lol

I had the exact same problem. But mine was there everytime i climbed a curb and when i went over speed humps
Started after I got my shocks replaced by CMH Ford in Randburg.
I took the car back and they re tightened everything and it was better for a few days and then started again. Took the car back and the replaced the control arms and CV's as this is where they said the noise came from.
Went and fetch the car and as i drove out the noise was still there.
This was on the friday and i planned to make a plan to take the car to Porters as i should have from the beginning the following week but come that weekend, as i was driving heard a big "klank" sound and pulled over to discover a bolt on the road when i went back to check.
Got the car towed to Porters that monday and the problem was found. 3 missing bolts from the subframe assembly (takes 8 bolts, 4 on each side with a bush in between)
These missing bolts caused damage to my drive shafts that they had to replace as well.
Got the car back and the sound was gone. Now according to Louis the subfraim bolts only get loosen when they have to replace the subfraim if the car was in an accident and i know for a fact that the car never was so i dont know what CMH did.

Hope yours is less complicated and you get it sorted soon

Torturer wrote:Hi all,

Need to some help from the collective brains trust here.

Has anyone else had a case that when climbing a curb or going down a curb at an angle, there is a loud thud noise that occurs somewhere on the suspension? Its almost as if something moves out of place, because there after if I go over a bump in the road soon after the initial thud, I get another thud as if whatever moved before went back into place and then no noises happen afterwards.
I have taken the car now 3 times to Ford and they cant seem to find out what causing it. The problem is, the noise only occurs in the morning when the car is completely cold, and I'm leaving my complex. So every time I get to ford, I cant reproduce the noise for them to even hear it (very annoying Murphy's Law is).

Anyone had a similar problem or has some theories.

Thanks.

I Had an extremely painful experience with a similar issue on my car. I was informed by DEALER'S to replace Ball joints. Problem still didnt go away, then was told to replace the Lower control arms.- then top shock mountings, then shocks, then steering rack, then CV's , then Wheel bearings... eventually I replaced the entire knuckle that the wheel bearing presses into which was the cause in the end, the Knuckle had worn out and even by fitting a new bearing on 2 occasions it still caused the bearing to shift back and forth causing the knocking sounds.

My Advice, work on a process of elimination by using parts from another car else you will land up with a 50K bill like I did. If you need assistance, you are welcome to PM me.

most of sounds seems to be like the symptoms of broken ball joints.
