The once off thud is something one can still live with - New problem, a vibration on the pedal, steering wheel as well as a noise, thumping noise from the front. Had the cart at the local Ford yesterday, very unhelpful - left due to that. Then went to TWT - according to them it might be CV joints or the engine mountings. Funny thing the noise/vibration is only there on bad roads and on uphill's...

Just got word from a CV and Prop-shaft specialist here by us, took the car to him this morning - inner CV is the verdict.

Well latest is that both engine mounts and the gearbox mounts need replacing. Then they will see if Im still getting that noise or not. But with the strike at the moment not sure when they gonna phone me to come in to get the mounts replaced.
The Virus, they already replaced the wheel bearings. Would they not have applied the FMCSA fix as well? replacing the carrier and hubs sounds extreme.

I have some advice. I worked at a Ford dealer for 7 years. We had this problem on a few cars at the dealer.
The fix we had helped most of the time. The Focus ST front wheel bearing carrier doesn't have a circlip to keep the bearing in place. Its only pressfit. The fix we had was as per FMCSA to remove bearing hub from carrier, cleaning and aplying a certain Locktite compound (which I will find out) and pressing it back. Worst case is like Ash said is to replace both the carrier and wheel bearing hub!
Hope this will help. :D

I thought this was only applicable to FL models?

Eventually got called in to have the engine mounts replaced. Suprise suprise, noise still there after mounts fitted. Now they tell me after another "full" day of inspection that the stabilizer linkages need to be replaced. How much diagnostic testing do the dealerships actually do on our cars if they keep moving to the next part they think needs fixing...

Problem is that the maintenance plan has already processed the claim for the linkages with the other dealership. Is it possible to have that claim moved to porters?

Jees. This has been a long walk. Thanks to Ash for the advise and initial help. You a cool dude for giving me the time.
The problem was eventually fixed by Pro CV and Steering in Sebenza. Big ups to Raymond and his team.
They sat with the car for 2 hours. Eventually they found that the bolts on the lower shock clamps were very slightly loose. This meant that under the right conditions the shock would move in the clamp and then move back into place later cause the thud noise. After they tightened everything, problem gone. So after 2 years and countless hours lost going to the Ford dealerships and untold tens of thousands Fraud raped from the maintenance plan replacing parts at will, it got solved by non OEM company.
Im just grateful it was something not seriously terminal on the suspension since the car is now out of plan...

Will try to...

although that noise gradually worsened so that it did not need the curb to manifest...
