Advice needed on tyre profiles

Postby Doc10 » Wed Jun 15, 2016 10:42 am

Hi Folks

Having driven a vehicle with 265/60/17 tyres for a number of years, I had obviously become used to the soft ride although
the road handling was spongy due to the high profile.

So with the 225/40/18 tyres the comfort level has gone for a ball of xxxx although the road handling is really great.

Question - Can I fit 225/45/18's or 50 profile tyres to the standard ST rim without any rubbing etc and would I be able to program the ECU with the new profile size so the odo is giving me the correct readings.

Thanks guys.

If you think the ST has a hard ride, please go nowhere near a VAG with that spec. My S3 clearly hates its tyres, and the tyres hates the car.......

I have no idea what to do with higher profile BUT, I went to 235/40/18. That has a slightly larger circumference and if pressured correctly leads to a softer ride and less rim damage. Speedo recalibration was not needed as it was still in the same range
