Brake noise and shudder

Postby Schpleegz » Thu Oct 27, 2016 9:54 am

Hi guys...

Looking for some advice here regarding my brakes.

I've noticed for a while now that if I drive the car a little hard or brake from over 120km/h the brakes sounding like they grinding and the car shudders.

Funny thing is that I took the car in to have the brakes checked. Workshop said that the pads were still fine and they just skimmed the disc to see if it helped. Yet the issue is still there.

Daily driving there is no issues. Car brakes normally, no shudder or noises.

Seems to be that as soon as the discs or brakes get hot I have the issue. For example if I pull the car to about 160km/h on the highway then brake... the first time i apply brakes all is fine, but everytime after that I brake, even at low speed, it makes the noise and shudder. After the brakes cool down all is fine again

Any one experience a similar issue or know what the problem is exactly???

Thanks

My dad had the exact same problem on this ST.

He replace all his disks now. Problem is gone as far as I know. I will ask him and confirm

He went to Silverlakes Dealership i believe. Dont to that. Useless to dumb and have lots of money to waste like my dad. :D :D

They charged him 10k to replace disks.

I replaced my discs with Powerbrake Discs and pads. For the front it was almost the same price, if I remember correctly than the original ones from Ford. Much better than OEM brakes and the pads last forever. Rears I had to get discs from Ford and I paid R1200 per disc. This was in 2012
One day my ST170 will be the last of it's kind in SA. 8)

Thanks guys...
Was hoping I didn't have to replace discs

Apart from Powerbrake and Ford, any suggestions on where I can get discs from reasonably priced?
