Just to add here and probably the cheapest of the lot and actually a very nice cab to drive is the Renault Megane RS Trophy at R490K. A few options out there that are R100K cheaper.

The FoRS is an epic car. Not everyone will like the styling but really an involved drivers car especially with the fact that it is a manual.

I had the opportunity to go test it at the Ford Performance Day. We drove it on the skidpan and then on a short make shift track with a few tight corners. The RS will make any driver look like a pro in track mode the grip is insane and the traction and stability control just gives you enough leeway to drift through corners. The drift mode makes the RS essentially a rear wheel drive car but provides just enough control to not completely lose it when going to hard around corners.

I agree that the price tag is about R100k too much for this car but I think the fact that only 300 will be coming to SA is what probably influenced the retail price. A friend of mine working at Motorvia said that they charge dealerships around R400k for a FoRS.

You probably won't find any FoRS for R699k as when we where at the performance day the marketing manager for Ford SA said that there were about 80 odd left and I heard yesterday that they are taking the RS's to CT for a drift event photoshoot and the organizer said there won't be any for sale as they are sold out. That is probably why we are seeing price like R800k - R900k.

The FoRS is really a great car and would choose that over a 2.3 Mustang anyday. Maybe even a 5.0 V8 :o . We drove the Mustangs on the day as well and the 2.3 was really disappointing, the V8 sounded like a symphony but I probably expected a little more power from it, but it was definitely not slow.

So them traders (mostly) have got their hands on it and now puming up the price even further. Ford SA have done a **** job on getting these cars to us at a reasonable price and in decent numbers to us. I know it is a RS an all that but why limit the numbers to 300 and inflate prices this much ?
