Dario S14 200sx with ??? Power!

Postby dariodpg » Thu Nov 26, 2009 2:06 pm

Hi there Guys and Girls just a bit of background on my car and my project [and myself]:

First of, let me say that I am a Ford fan, Dyed in the wool, no two ways about it. I am also a car enthusiast and whilst guys my age were playing marbles and Tag – I was more interested in reading car magazines and finding out about the latest in car technology. Until recently thing’s like turbos and fuel management systems ect were pipe dreams for Me, thankfully things do change, and I am allowed to pursue my dream in terms of building a project car that can hopefully be respected in the Modified car circles [I hope the same for any car enthusiast]

I learned one thing about the car world – Power knows no badge or pedigree, which is just something that someone sitting behind a desk concocted up, to make the decision to justify the purchase of performance cars, a bit easier. Having said that – Hold fast to the level of thought and engineering that went into your car, and know that whilst some cars have there strong points – No Base is perfect.

Why a Nissan: In 1999 when looking for a practical 4 door run of the mill sedan – after test driving many cars a choice was made: The Nissan Primera 2.0GSI [Which I now own] - 257 000km later [with very little fuss], I began to look at Japanese cars with a lot more respect. And as such I developed a liking to such Street racer cars like the R34GTR and such.

Why the SX: as with most things in life: we have to weigh our dreams up against Reality. For example: who would not like to Buy a Supercar and modify it [very few people]? Unfortunately there aren’t many platforms that allow you much flexibility in terms of drag/drift/street. The availability of parts and the sheer amount of development that has gone into these cars swayed me. I could have easily ended up with a M3/Rs2/Volvo T5/Falcon or similar – So I will not diss a car just because I don’t drive it.

Why would there be a need to put a Nissan Car in a Ford Forum: well I believe that if you learn even one thing from this project thread, it would have been worth it. Another thing about the car world – One person does not know everything about cars, if that was the case – they would have had a monopoly like you would never believe – If you feel I am wrong please correct me.

The Goal of the Project: To Learn as Much as Possible about Vehicles in general, and to try and do as much as possible on my own. Not to be the fastest, on the QM, or the Lightest on Fuel, ect those absolutes are not on my list: so if you feel the need to compare; my project to another feel free to do so, but also be mindful that this is not my intent – Nor do I Encourage it, as it reduces another mans work and thought process to the limits of what you see or read on these pages.

Thanks to anyone who takes the Time to Read it. Thanks to my dad for encouraging my passion, thanks to Rezlo aka Ian Oberholzer and Hennie Marias for the advice and practical tips, and supplying me with much of my parts ( http://www.rezlo.com ); it is appreciated.

A Special Thanks must go out to the Guys at Maritzburg Engineering (Evasen Pillay & co) (+27 333869081) who displayed professionalism and a high level of machining skill to produce a unique set of brake components for my SX and Dale Joubert for Designing them (viewtopic.php?f=81&t=33123&start=255).

On to the Project Itself 8)

Let me Outline the Current Problems with the Car[Then the way forward]:

1. The car overheats and the Stock Cooling system is not suffcient
2. The Injectors are Maxed out
3. She doesnt handle too well at the moment
4. Braking is very poor for the amount of power she makes
5. The engine management system is not sharp enough for my intents and puposes
6. She has a fair bit of lag
