Darth Vader

Postby Tren » Thu Oct 10, 2013 3:14 pm

When i bought the car in 2010 from PRIMO on this forum..i thought i was getting a good buy...turned out to be a [email protected] HOK!!! with more faults then i could ever imagine!

SO i think its about time i started a project on my car...to track its progress...

posted this 25 July 2011 from our club forum.

so above is darth as i got the bugger......

car never really ran like it should...found endless problems like holes in the boost pipes....loose actuator, manifold and turbo gasket was stuffed....

but slowly but surely i replaced things as time allowed me to leave the car at FRAUD......

dyno graphs started getting smoother and stronger....

1st dyno was 177,8kw and 369nm
2nd dyno was 187kw and 410nm
3rd dyno was 192kw and 430nm

slowly but surely things was getting sorted....

got me a new software unit where i could see the in real time how much timing the car was pulling etc....then i did some research and found that the car is pulling 14 degrees timing due to all the heat being generated and the standard cooler not being able to cope with the heat....

so saved up and purchased a cooler....installed it alst wkend and what a difference....

Intake Temps dont go above 44deg even after alot of spirited driving.....
timing dropped down from 14degrees to 9.3 on pump fuel...standard ST pulls 6 degrees timing on pump fuel.....

So im super keen to go dyno the car now....hoping to get well over 200 and as close to 500nm as i can get.....

there are some boost pipe issues that fraud deny so FARK them will save up myself and fit after market pipes....this should hopefully bring down the timing a little more as well......

some pics of fitting the cooler......

will be updating thread soon once i get a chance to dyno and once new boost pipes are fitted

This was posted 18 oct 2011 after saldahna :

Tren wrote:So i think an update is inorder......

found a few issues with the car in CT.....probable causes for the major timing pull....

1) Boost leak from External dumpvalve during acceleration
2) broken off DV from turbo(Leak, plus causes turbo stalling between gear changes)
3) Pipe that was supposed to be blocked on the induction (big boost leak)
4) worn clutch, for who knows how long....clutch was slipping under acceleration....

blocked pipe off, replaced clutch....instant transformation....

car was running on par with the other DSCi ST's..... :D but losing to them on top due to the 63mm catback which i def need to replace to 76mm.... (losing through mid range and even more on top end)

car ran well at saldahna....official 193km/h at 22.76 and unofficially 198km/h at faster then 22.76 LOL...

have the replacement parts for the re-circulating valve and to remove the external dumpvalve and install the stock part.....

will be doing that soon then heading to the dyno soon...... ;)

U are doing me proud Darthy Boy!!!

Back gap between updates...money was tight and fraud were useless LOL...

Nog n update...

replaced all boost pipes with upgraded SFS boost kit...well worth all the pennies..

Bought a motorcade gen2 intake..much better quality then my JMS intake i had on the car..

Did RS ECU cover upgrade as well to neaten up the engine bay...

fitted iridium plugs as well..

Fitted JOM coilovers...

car received a nose job as well...and had the rims redone as well!

Should be dynoing the car in early oct 2013...hoping for some decent figures...

p.s last dyno figure prior to this was, over a yr ago...but was 206.2 and 467nm...

aiming for 220kw and 480nm...as the car is feeling super strong

pictures below..

Car was dynoed this past weekend coupled with lots of runs

P.s Car was dynoed made 211.4kw and 460kw but @ 0% ambient correction..so added 6% for a comparison and got 225kw and 487nm which im happy as i surpassed my expectations...and the car is running like a demon on the road..

And proved that mod for mod ST is faster then a GTi!!!

map below..

mods still to be done...76mm catback should free up 6/7kw and mod x map coming soon!

Uhm faster then the PE VAGS Otter. With just SW, DP and intake I made 196wkw with 0% correction. Thats more than your flywheel readings even with you adding 6%. So your argument is invalid

I preferred track racer to mod x... as a daily drive

mod x just wants to eat your timing

i only really drive my car hard when i plan to race... i live in grahamstown..so i dont drive over 50km/h here ever really...

I drive 1.8km to work and 1.8km back...so everyday isnt an issue for me...

so the extra timing and boost..coupled together with 76mm exhaust should give me some decent gains while keep my power delivery more or less the same..

i raced a mod x car after the dyno day..he made 20kw and 40nm more then me (plus he has 76mm catback)...but we ran pretty much the same from rolling 2nd gear @ 50km/h until 230 and we were together.

So i had a higher average power...so im hoping mod x will maintain my power for longer, but by keeping my high average power across the graph.

the torque drops off quite quick with mod x, It's a very aggressive map. I must admit it was enjoyable when the hammer was thrown down. In my opinion it's a great map for the dyno and some high octane juice. You will make more power, for sure. If your average power increases and is consistent remains to be seen. I hope for your sake it does both.

all the best bud. Your cabby looks fresh

1st run i was ahead was opening gaps each gear was 2 cars ahead at the end....

2nd and 3rd run i bogged.. and was playing catch up...

I was practically running on pump as well..pulling 7.5degrees timing..as the damn nf never mixed, throw it in filled up and drove to track..by Sat it had mixed and my car had become a different kettle of fish..

Yeah i know its agressive, i wont run it without NF if im going to dyno or have runs...

Yip for 80 pounds is worth checking out if it will keep my graph the same but just increase my power and torque delivery.

Will keep this thread updated as i go along so others can learn as well :smt023
