Daily Drive Focus BT - Road to 600HP

Postby transformer » Thu Jan 07, 2016 6:04 pm

Hey guys

I recently upgraded from my k16 setup and after so many hours and so much effort put into my car I am very proud of her as she stands now; I just wanted to share some insight on the process. Here she is before anything got started.

Image

First step was taking out the engine, I never took any pictures at this stage but here she is on our lift during the process.
Image

Took a while to get some parts for the turbo setup but mad scientist Zain made quick work of the engine, this guy really is a master and it means a lot to me having him do the engine.
Image

Image

Image

The sub assembly specs are K1 rods, Wossner pistons and Darton sleeves. The head studs are ARP non stretch and using a RS head gasket. While waiting for the turbo goodies I decided to tidy up where I could, cleaned the gearbox as well.
Image

Image

Image

Image

Got the radiators flushed and tested and they were still hundreds
Image

Had new buttons put on the clutch as well
Image

Then some parts started rolling in. My choice on the turbo was a 5858 ball bearing with .63 exhaust housing. I wanted a quick spool up for everyday use and just wanted a nice punch above k16, I thought I would regret not going a bit bigger but at the moment I am still very happy with the way she responds low down.

Now I could start making some progress with getting this beaut in the car

It was now time to for the downpipe, wastegate and boost pipe to be made/ modified so we did all this in house. All connections use v band flanges and the wastegate pipe can be removed separately from the downpipe! Trial and error was frustrating but we managed to put together something that I was very happy with.

Some moral support from some of my buddies, cars were too gorgeous not to share lol
Image
This beast will be the end of me lol
Image

Back to the Ford hahaha, exhaust lined up proper after everything was tightened up and happy chappie I was.

Image

Bigger injectors that dubs organised for me, if Dubs says they good I trust him 200%
Image

Image

Image

Intake supplied by hano, top service, just such a shame it had to be cut and modified to fit but I knew this would be needed as I told Hano it was fine to make one according to the stock location. I didn’t want a stainless steel intake hence opting for one from SAIC.
Image

Image

Image

Loads of additional stuff was needed which I didn’t take pictures of. Here is one of them; Uprated n75 from Elevate. I converted to RS map sensor as well but had one lying around for a year which I knew it would come in handy.
Image

All done and then picked up a broken injector wire, crank sensor wire but dubs sorted me out quickly! She was now idling smooth and sounded sweet!
So good having her home again but she needed a major wash, reverted back to stock wheels for normal street use with some new potenzas I bought a long while ago.
Image

Image
Still need to finish off a few cosmetic stuff in the engine bay such as respraying the intake, etc. but that can all wait.
Image

But she was out and about and I was more than happy!
Image

First test was a mini road trip to Langebaan which is not too far but a nice drive to stretch her legs a bit.
Image

Image

Image

Fuel consumption was amazing and car drove like a dream with zero issues except slight rubbing in the rear. Holiday was cut short and had to return home for a wedding followed by another drive to Langebaan to continue the holidays and still no sweat. I raised the ride height a tad and this how she sitting at the moment.
Image

What a great way to begin 2016 and a huge huge huge thank you to zain and patrick! The lengths you guys go to help me out are unbelievable, a lot left unposted. So far everything has been great and cannot wait to turn her up. Oil change due the weekend, I have done 1300km so far. I still have quite a few cosmetic stuff and one or two hardware changes that I need to make but will post up. Thanks for looking and Cheers guys!!
