A good Focus and S3 tale

Postby leon » Mon Dec 19, 2016 6:51 pm

So, as some would know I have my ST225(bought new in 2006) upgraded over time and it now features everything possible for a stock motor. I have k16 tebo, WMI, cooler, clutch and LSD, intake, RS tebo Map, injectors, zorst, etc, etc, itmade like 253 on the dyno earlier this year and yada yada. So it is fast and sounds manic, and is of course a hoot to drive. I also have a 2014 REVO Ordi S3 Sportback DSG thing. It is also fast, but not as manic as the Foci, and a lot less fun. Actually it is my wife's car, and she was caught doing 162 during a trip to CT recently where she pretended not to know any English and confounded the cop by speaking a mix of Russian and German (she is European) so he let us go after drawing the speed limit on his hand!!!

I also raced the two against each other and from 60 km/h it is a close run thing to 160 where the focus simply overpowers the Audi's quick acting tranny and walks away with ease. Strangely, after totally replacing all suspension bushes and rubbers, shocks and the like, the Focus still rides better than the audi, although it does not handle as well at the limit. I guess that the adjustable konis in the focus can go a tad firmer....But I am not complaining. The foci looks great after the recent cosmetic changes done by Cornel and detail by Morne. So it also is a good looker with RS vents and wing and all and all.

I am just amazed at how much I still enjoy the Fordjie, which is named Lucifer. The Car is even more economical after the k16 installation. I guess cruising at 140 is still outside the boost for the k16, but there is ample torque for everyday use in 6th gear from 100km/h onwards. I have Alpine sound with GPS installed and the fully alpine speakers (2 x split systems with Sub) is amazing and far better than the Bose or B&O system in the Audi. The Focus is 10 years young this year and has travelled a sedate 140 K km. I am sure I will love this car for many years as it brings a smile to my face and everyone who happens to hear it dump, snarl and backfire. It is a proper hairy chested fellow, a bit daft, but sooooo much fun. Long live the ST225!!!!

I am not sure that Alpine can be compared to B&O or Bose, but the Alpine doesnt come standard in the Foci so I assume it was never a like for like comparison

is the S3 modded as well?

The Alpine sound is of course not standard, but I assure you it has a lot ore dynamism over the entire spectrum. The B&O in the Ordi is good but does not even compare to the Premium sound in The XC60. IMHO, not worth the cost apart from the accompanying SATNAV. And Yes, The S3 has REVO stage 1 tune plus some intake and downpipe that I had fitted (brand names escape me now) The Audi rocks, no mistake, but it just lacks that grin factor tht the stupidly daft Fordjie brings. It is like comparing my over the top modded Bandit 1200 to My ZX14. They make similar power, but the one is actually a hoot, the other one soooo serious.
