2.0l V6 quadcam mods

Postby ALLI-ST-ER » Wed Feb 17, 2016 12:54 pm

Good afternoon all

I need your assistance please, I have a 1994 Mazda 626 2.0l V6, similar to the telstar, has just over 200k on the clock, what would you guys suggest to get a more power out of this V6, and are there any reliability issues I should be aware of before I go the chip, branch and exhaust route?
just replaced the waterpump, cambelt, tensioners and full service, Motor sounds and runs well, it goes to 200 plus effortlessly. What would you guys suggest.

all comments welcome.

if memory serves me correctly (and I have been known to get it wrong) these engines are profiles for midrange, so look at doing the cams, porting, as well as raising the compression ratio. The exhaust should also be relooked. Do not waste money on induction since NA cars hardly benefit from this, especially FI engines like these with long intake tracts. Dunno if chipping this guy will help since the "maps" are very rudimentary. Don't expect much though.....

To be honest, unless you go turbo the Mazda, you will be limited to very little gain with the chip, exhaust, branch & intake route.
Might just make it sound nice and optimise the fuel... but won't gain a lot.
I would say maybe replace the oil pump to make sure since it has a lot of KM's on the clock. Then it should be fine!

Maybe MrMazda can help out with this one??

I've Pmed you Martin v d Walt's info. He is passionate about these engines. Problems I can recall on high distance engines are water & oil pumps. SC or turbo is probably the only way to get real power out of it. I doubt the gearbox will handle mega KW though.
